HUNDREDS braved the wet weather to visit Highams Park Day.

An estimated 500 children and parents enjoyed live music and food at the event on Vincent Green, off Vincent Road, on Saturday (July 14).

The day started with The Stow Caledonia Pipe Band marching from Highams Park Station to the green before Mayor of Waltham Forest, Richard Sweden, officially opened the festival at 12pm.

Local indie band Kill Your Idol played under a covered marquee before folk singers Jim and Gail Younger and The Chingford Morris Men took to the stage.

Organisers Highams Park Society raised £500, which will be split between Haven House Children's Hospice in Woodford Green and the Highams Park Youth Club.

Chairman Sandeep Chritsten, said: "We're pleased at the day, everyone enjoyed themselves and we ended up having a great time."
