MORE strike dates have been announced by the Fire Brigades Union as a 24-hour stoppage draws to a close.

The union says its members will strike on July 26, August 11, September 5 and October 18 and will only respond to 999 calls on July 27 and August 12 in protest at cuts in staff.

The union says the strike periods will add up to a total of 12 hours.

The Essex County Fire and Rescue Service has called the strikes “disappointing,” but said the contingency plans in place to cover yesterday and this morning’s strike had worked well.
