FABRICE Muamba will carry the Olympic torch on its final leg through the borough this evening (Saturday).
The Bolton Wanderers midfielder, who grew up in Walthamstow and attended Kelmscott School, was revived after his heart stopped for nearly 80 minutes during a game against Tottenham Hotspur in March.
Council leader Chris Robins said: “His drive, courage and determination to return to top flight football have been remarkable and he has proved to be a great role model to Waltham Forest’s young people.”
The torch is due to arrive into the borough at about 6.30pm, when it will enter Coronation Gardens in Leyton High Road during the Rhythm of London Big Busk event, which runs from 4pm to 7pm.
The flame will then be carried down the High Road, past the Bakers Arms crossroads, along Hoe Street and into Walthamstow.
It is due to arrive at Walthamstow Town Square at about 7.10pm, before being carried down Hoe Street to Bell Corner and then to Waltham Forest Town Hall.
A concert at the town hall, headlined by the duo Rizzle Kicks, is due to start at about 7.30pm.
