POLICE are warning motorists to be on their guard after a spate of thefts from cars in a road close to Whipps Cross Hospital. There were ten reported vehicle break-ins in James Lane, which runs alongside the Leytonstone hospital, last month alone. A Met spokeswoman said the thefts had each happened at various times day and night. Officers are urging motorists not to keep valuables in their cars when unattended and to make sure all windows - including sunroofs - are kept closed. A spokesman for Forest Safer Neighbourhoods Team said: "There are usually few opportunities for forensic evidence to identify those responsible but we are doing all we can to ensure we patrol areas where this is a problem and to detect and deter offenders. "We want to raise awareness amongst all our residents so please pass the word on. If you have any information that could assist us, please contact us at Forest.snt@met.police.uk or call us on 020 8721 2645". Residents who see anyone acting suspiciously in the area are urged to call 999.
