HUNDREDS of classic Cadillacs and Chevvies had car fanatics’ engines revving at North Weald Airfield on Saturday.
Blue skies and sunshine drew 3,000 motor-mad visitors to this year’s Damn Yankees American Car Show, with more than 800 American vintage vehicles – from chic convertibles to powerful 1940s pick-up trucks – on display.
Guests were also treated to a dramatic drag racing display in the arena, stalls, hot food, live music and a fun fair for younger visitors.
Damn Yankees chairman Gary Hall, 58, said: “This was our 26th show and my 26th year and I’m still playing with big boys’ toys.
“It went really well – and obviously the weather had something to do with that.
“So many car shows are held on the grass that a lot have been called off this summer because of the rain, so this gave people a chance to finally come along.
“The highlight was the drag racing, because we had the commentator from the Santa Pod Raceway – the biggest drag racing track in Europe. He always livens it up for us.”
