PLANS to develop part of the Olympic Park into a huge recreational area after the Games have been unveiled.

The London Legacy Development Corporation has submitted a proposal to build a carousel, labryinth fountain, performance place and play area in the park's 28-acre South Plaza.

The plan drawn up by landscape architects James Corner Field Operation is expected to be opened by spring 2014, following the opening of the North Park in 2013.

The plaza at the park in Stratford stretches from the 114-metre tall ArcelorMittal Orbit to the Aquatics Centre.

The Legacy Corporation said on its website: "The South Park will have its laidback quarter too, along the canal paths, amid the floating restaurants thronging with diners. Here you’ll find children kayaking, water taxis shuttling locals home from work and anglers trying their luck from the shaded banks."
