A TEMPORARY food market and "pop-up" pub are to open in Leyton throughout the duration of the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
It has just been announced that stalls selling a vairety of international dishes, including Italian, Caribbean, Indian, German and British, will open in Marshall Road between 9am and 10pm from Friday (July 27) until Sunday September 9.
The council is running the market in partnership with the North London Business group and Skateco UK.
Meanwhile the owners of the Red Lion in Leytonstone will be serving alcohol during the Games from their temporary 'Leyton Technical' pub in the former town hall building in the High Road from tomorrow up intil August 12.
The chain, Antic Ltd, has previously expressed an interest in a running a permanent pub at the site.
It said the venue's licence holder name had been transferred to them. The pub will open between 2pm and 11pm most days except Fridays and Saturdays when it operate between midday and midnight.
A council spokeswoman said: "To ensure the highest public safety food standards, the Primary Care Trust and council’s environmental health food safety team worked with stall holders to address issues around food safety, waste management, licensing and recycling and provided advice on healthy food options and ways of reducing salt, sugar and fat content."
