WHIPPS Cross Hospital's maternity unit has been given a boost from a £33,000 donation raised by a former mayor of Waltham Forest.
The cash has been earmarked for new foetal monitors, ultrasound equipment and portable birthing pools, along with special coaches and birthing balls to aid women during labour at the Leytonstone site.
It was collected by Cllr Anna Mbachu during her reign as mayor in 2009/10, but staff changes and various wranglings over what to spend the cash on delayed the hand-over until now.
Cllr Geoff Walker, the mayor of Waltham Forest last year, presented the cheque to staff in his role as trustee of the Mayors Charities group.
