ADULT education services in Waltham Forest have been praised.

The services, provided by the council, were rated 'good' in ten areas and 'outstanding' in arts, crafts, fashion and textiles by watchdiog Ofsted.

The report noted that the Community Learning and Skills Service (CLaSS) helps those in economic need as well as vulnerable, hard to reach and under-represented groups.

Its apprenticeships have also been rated above average for the last four years.

Ofsted said: "In a period of economic austerity CLaSS achieves good value for money, through the effective and efficient use of its resources."

Councillor Mark Rusling, cabinet member for economic development and corporate resources, said: "It’s terrific news.

"Now more than ever it is important that we give residents a good adult education service as the courses we provide can make a real difference to people’s lives."
