MARATHON man Lloyd Scott swapped his deep sea diving gear for an Olympic tracksuit to complete his leg of the torch relay on Wednesday evening.
Mr Scott, of Coppice Row, Theydon Bois, has raised more than £5million for charities by running marathons in the heavy diving suit.
The 50-year-old – who works in Morrisons in Loughton and at a school in Leytonstone – was selected to carry the flame through Turnpike Lane, Haringey.
Although he was required to wear the white torchbearers’ uniform, organisers did grant Mr Scott special permission to hold his iconic copper diver’s helmet as he ran.
He admitted 'nearly taking his eyebrows off' while attempting to switch the flaming torch and helmet from hand-to-hand.
“It was like nothing I’d ever experienced before. It was just amazing, at times even a bit scary. There were just so many people," said Mr Scott.
“It all seemed to go very quickly – most of the things I do tend to last for a few days.
“You don’t usually get that sort of reception for running 300 yards. You do get the sense of feeling part of something far, far bigger.”
