AN 80-year-old man was left badly shaken after two men broke into his house in the middle of the night and robbed him at knifepoint.

It is thought the duo got into the home in Leucha Road, Walthamstow, by breaking through a back door.

Police say the pensioner was woken at 3.45am on Tuesday (July 24) and then threatened at knifepoint by the men.

They stole three bank cards, a leather wallet and a quantity of cash before making off.

The man was not injured but was left deeply upset by the raid.

The first suspect was wearing an anarok with a pulled-up hood which had fur around the rim, so only his eyes were visible.

He wore white trainers with a blue stripe and had a "foreign" accent.

The second man is believed to be of eastern European origin. He was tanned and had a shaved head.

A Met spokesman said: "If anyone else who lives on or near Leucha Road believes that they may have had any damage caused to their premises or found anything unusual in their gardens or if anyone believes that they saw anything suspicious on this occasion please contact Waltham Forest Burglary Squad on 02032760944."

NOTE: A previous version of this story wrongly said the thieves gained entry through an open window. This was due to incorrect information provided to us by the police.
