RESIDENTS of Wanstead are encouraged to bake, garden, arrange flowers and take photos for Wanstead's first ever Village Show.
St Mary with Christ Church in Wanstead Place has organised the show on September 22 to raise money for charitable projects around the world.
Catergories in the show will include:
• Produce classes: fruits and vegetables, and potted plants
• Flower arrangements
• Domestic classes: cakes, jams and chutney
• Photography: A photo of Wanstead
The idea of raising money for charities around the world came from 13-year-old Felicity Hepworth, a student at Wanstead High School and a member of the church.
The day after the show the church will hold a fete to raise money for repairs to its roof.
The church has to raise a further £35,000 to finish the repairs, which started in June.
English Heritage gave the church a grant of £140,000, leaving the church to find another £120,000 to fund the repairs.
Church Warden Pen Garlick said: "We still have a target to reach and want to give people a good time while raising the funds."
Entry into the show will cost £2.50 per adult and 50p per child and it will cost 50p to view the show in the Church Hall.
