POLICE have released CCTV of two men suspected of carrying out knifepoint muggings on trains.
Officers are linking the duo with two robberies, one of which took place on the Chingford to Liverpool Street Overground line.
Detectives say a 29-year-old man was approached by the men as his train was travelling between Wood Street station in Walthamstow and Highams Park just before 11am on March 15.
One of the men drew a knife and demanded the victim hand over his iPhone.
Fearing for his safety, the man handed over the device and the two men got off at the next stop.
They are believed to have carried out a similar mugging on a train in the Stamford Hill area the week before.
Detective Constable Sheela Chhaya, the investigating officer, said: "These types of incidents are rare on the rail network, however we are taking it very seriously.
"We are now asking for help from the public and urge that anyone that may recognise the men pictured, or who may have information about the incident, contact police."
Those with information about the either incident is urged to contact British Transport Police on Freefone 0800 40 50 40 quoting reference B5/LNA of 23/07/12.
Alternatively, to remain anonymous, contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
