A CHILDREN'S author played football with children to encourage them to read.
Tom Palmer, author of 'White Fear' and 'Foul Play', paid a visit to Shelley Primary School, in Milton Crescent, Ongar yesterday.
Mr Palmer played reading games with the children before sitting down to read a few passages from some of his books.
Headteacher Lesley Lewis said: "The day was really really good and the children absolutely loved it."
The children from key stages one and two had to answer literature related questions before being able to take a shot at the goal.
The aim of the day was to encourage more children to take up reading for pleasure.
