A TAXI driver arrested over the death of a woman in her 40s has been released on bail.

The woman died after her Volkswagen Polo and a Ford Galaxi crashed head-on in Epping Road, just outside Epping, between the Wake Arms roundabout and the turning for Upshire in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Her car caught fire and although firefighters tackled the blaze, she died at the scene.

Her next of kin have been informed, but she has not yet been formally identified.

The taxi driver, a 48-year-old man from east London, was arrested and has been released on bail until November 19.

Anyone who witnessed the collision or remembers seeing the cars before the crash should call the Serious Collision Investigation unit on 101 or email collisionappeal@essex.pnn.police.uk.
