IAIN Duncan Smith came face to face with an illustrious predecessor when he popped into a local history exhibition.

The Chingford and Woodford Green MP joined councillors for a look at the ‘History of Woodford’ exhibition which is on show at South Woodford Library in High Road, South Woodford.

The exhibition, which was included in this year’s programme of events for the Woodford Festival, uses photographs, films and historical documents to tell the story of the area from the 1800s to the 1930s.

During his visit, Mr Duncan Smith took time to read about the work of Sir Winston Churchill who represented the old Woodford constituecy.

He said: “I am a die-hard history lover and can always be found reading a history book when I’m not working.

“I also think the Woodford Festival is a great way to celebrate and promote the rich cultural heritage of our local area.”

The exhibition is free and runs until October 27.
