POLICE are hunting for three youths following an attempted robbery on a bus.

A bus driver was driving along Broomstick Hall Road, in Waltham Abbey, when a white youth on a push scooter motioned for him to stop so he could board.

At the same time, two young black men on push bikes pulled alongside the driver's window, causing it to crack.

When the driver stopped to assess the damage, all three youths boarded the bus. They approached the driver’s area and reached down as if to take the cash, before a man in his 60s stepped forward and told them to leave.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident, which happened at about 7.15pm on Sunday September 30.

One of the suspects is described as black, aged 15 or 16, with a ‘posh local’ accent. He was wearing a bright yellow top and black trousers and riding a mountain bike.

Another suspect is described as white and aged about 13. He is skinny with blond hair and was wearing a grey jogging top and bottoms.

Investigating officer PC Mike Ferguson said: "I am appealing for any witnesses who were on board the bus or who were nearby and saw this incident to contact me.

"In particular I would like to speak to the member of public who kindly stepped forward and told the youths to leave as they may have vital information that can assist in the investigation.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact PC Ferguson on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
