THE annual fireworks display at Waltham Forest Town Hall will be free to attend this year, it has been announced.
There is normally an entry fee for the event but the council says it wants to pay a "final thank you" to residents for putting up with disruption during this Olympic year.
It takes place on Monday November 5 at 8pm in Chestnuts Field behind the town hall in Forest Road, Walthamstow. Gates open at 5pm.
A council spokesman said the costs would be met from the budget for the authority's 'Big 6' series of events to celebrate the Olympics.
Council leader Cllr Chris Robbins said: "I think almost every single person living in Waltham Forest will have something to remember 2012 by, and that’s what we always wanted.
“Our fireworks event is always enjoyed by thousands, and as a final thank you to resident for their patience and support throughout 2012 this year’s event will be free.”
