SEVEN months after suffering a cardiac arrest that stopped his heart for nearly 80 minutes, retired footballer Fabrice Muamba is due to marry his fiancée today.
The former Bolton Wanderers player, who grew up in Walthamstow and went to Kelmscott School in Markhouse Road, collapsed on the pitch during a match against Tottenham Hotspurs in March.
Despite hoping he would be able to continue his playing career, the 24-year-old retired from professional football in August on the advice of a heart specialist.
He will wed Shauna Magunda at a castle in Cheshire today, with the doctor who helped save his life, Andrew Deaner, of Barking Havering and Redbridge University Trust, expected to be in the congregation.
Mr Muamba said via Twitter yesterday: “One more day to go now.”
