SCHOOLCHILDREN built homes for bugs during a conservation day.
Year three pupils at Oakdale Junior School in Oakdale Road, South Woodford, also planted bulbs and monitored tree growth as they helped prepare Elmhurst Gardens for winter.
Claire Marriott, a volunteer for Friends of Elmhurst Gardens, said: "The children really enjoyed the morning.
"The children get to take ownership of the park and they get to see the full cycle when they come back in the spring."
The gardens off Gordon Road recently achieved Green Flag status for the third year in a row.
