THE Friends of Wanstead Parklands made their own contribution to Redbridge Council’s ‘Octoberfest’ of cultural activities with a guided walk around Wanstead Park on October 20.
Group member Richard Arnopp gave a lecture on the park’s colourful history to
an audience at Wanstead Library, before setting off on a tour of Wanstead Golf Course which contains features of the park not usually open to the public.
A visit to the Grade I listed St Mary’s Church in Overton Drive was followed by a detour to the Temple in the park, which is hosting an exhibition on the man who brought ruin to the park’s former stately home.
