THE family and friends of a woman who drowned in the River Roding have raised £2,900 for a children’s hospice in her memory.

Seventy-year-old Nancy Ryan disappeared after leaving her house in Gaynes Hill Road, Woodford Bridge, on August 7.

Her body was found in the River Roding close to the Redbridge Roundabout on August 12.
A post-mortem found she died of drowning. Police are not treating her death as suspicious.

Her family asked well-wishers to donate to Haven House children’s hospice in Woodford Green in her memory.

Son Michael, 43, of Chelmsford Road, South Woodford, said: “My mum would have been happy knowing people had donated so generously to such a good cause.”

Haven House provides care for children and young people between the ages of 0 to 19 who have life limiting conditions and who are unlikely to reach adulthood.

The hospice offers a range of services that include day, short break and end of life care.

An inquest into Mrs Ryan’s death will take place in December.
