Millions around the world are tuning in to watch the first tribute concert to Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins.

The 50-year-old passed away in March in Bogota Columbia, where he was set to perform with the band.

Led by former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl, the Foo Fighters organised two tribute concerts to the star, raising money for Musicares, a charity offering support to musicians with health and addiction problems.

The first show got underway today (September 3) at Wembley Stadium, with a second show to follow in Los Angeles on September 27.

Performers to feature in London so far include Oasis star Liam Gallagher - who joined the remaining Foo Fighters, with Dave Grohl on drums - to open the show, and The Darkness frontman Justin Hawkins.

Others set to perform include another Nirvana legend, Krist Novoselic, AC/DC singer Brian Johnson and Queen guitar virtuoso, Brian May.

There will also be special appearences by comedians Dave Chappelle and Chris Rock.

Speaking to the crowd before the music got underway, Grohl said: "Tonight, we are gathered here to celebrate the life, the music and the love of our dear friend, our bandmate, our brother, Taylor Hawkins.

"No one else could make you smile, or laugh, or dance, or sing like he could."

He added: "So, tonight, we've gathered with family and his closest friends, his musical heroes and greatest inspirations, to bring you a gigantic night for a gigantic person."
