Two former players came back to haunt Redbridge as the Motormen were thrashed 4-0 at home to title challengers Maldon & Tiptree on Saturday.
After a tight start to the game Maldon opened the scoring just before the half hour mark when Chris Bryan’s corner was headed in at the near post by ex-Motorman Billy Sendall to give the visitors the lead.
Redbridge keeper Michael Bowditch produced a handful of fine saves to keep the score line at 1-0 but the stopper was powerless when Michael Toner crossed for Frank Everett to double Maldon’s advantage before the break.
Moments into the second half the visitors virtually sealed the game with their third.
Danny Hayes misjudged Toner’s cross from the left and Jamie Guy finished low and hard into the corner, before another former Redbridge player, James Robinson, made it four in the 70th minute.
Redbridge had chances to grab a consolation late on with both Nana Asamoah and Lee Newton going close, but Maldon emphasised their superiority with a resounding 4-0 win.
Second from bottom after ten games, Redbridge will be hoping to start climbing the table when they face Cheshunt at home this Saturday.
Waltham Forest were left ruing two contentious refereeing decisions and a host of missed chances as they suffered a 2-1 away defeat to Soham Town Rangers last Saturday.
Forest’s first complaint came when captain Adrian Clifton’s shot deflected into the net early on only for the officials to rule the ball had come off a Forest player who was offside.
The second controversy occurred soon after when Forest felt Corey Whitely was brought down in the box unfairly but once again the officials ruled in favour of Rangers and the score remained goalless.
There was no doubt involved though when Whitely finished smartly to put Forest ahead just before the break.
The visitors continued to create opportunities early in the second half but failed to put the Rangers out of sight with Joel Palmer, Jack Leachman and Whitely all wasting chances in front of goal.
And Rangers made them pay in dramatic style late on as Matt Robinson headed home from the edge of the box before Michael Simpson got on the end of a long throw to turn the game completely on its head.
The result saw Forest drop to 19th in the league as they take on Bowers & Pitsea tonight in the third round of the Essex Senior Cup.
Waltham Abbey moved into the top half of the table on Tuesday night with a 2-0 away win against Brentwood Town.
Goals from Chris Sargent and Clark Akers sealed the victory which sees Abbey now unbeaten in three matches.
