Eton Manor rose to third in the league as they ended Colchester’s unbeaten record at home with an impressive 19-14 victory.
Colchester took the early initiative but on 20 minutes it was the visitors who broke the deadlock with Alex Hunter powering over the line and Max Murray adding the conversion.
Colchester responded immediately and a 23rd minute penalty narrowed the deficit down to 7-3.
The Colchester back three looked dangerous throughout and after some slick passing they worked it quickly for the winger to score out wide. Despite a missed conversion attempt the home side led 8-7 going into the break.
Manor came out strong in the second half and captain Tryson Goodchild quickly added another try and Murray was again successful with the kick to take the scores to 14-8.
Colchester were finding it increasingly difficult to break down a solid Manor defence but eventually scored with a penalty to make it 14-11.
Manor responded quickly to stop the home side from gaining any momentum and when Ian Edwards landed their third try of the game with 12 minutes remaining the away side were in control.
Colchester continued to attack and were rewarded with a penalty in front of the posts which they duly converted, earning them a consolation point with the last kick of the game.
Manor now have a week off to recover ahead of a crucial match against second place Letchworth on November 17.
