A Tottenham Hotspur Legends XI will be the opponents of local Amateur Alliance team Lea Valley F.C this Sunday at the Douglas Eyre Sports Centre in Walthamstow.
The match, put on to raise money to help fight against cancer, will include names such as Gary Brooke, Tony Galvin, Mark Falco, Andy Sinton, Paul Miller, John Lacey, Stuart Nethercott and Darren Anderton.
Lea Valley F.C are an amateur team from Hackney. Founded in 2006 they currently sit second in their division and have won five of their six league games this season.
The game was organised by Andy Scott, manager of Coppermill Public House who are sponsoring the game.
He said: “I got to know Gary Brooke through other charity games and the legends team play together a lot so after a while I approached him and asked if they would play a game and he said they would as long as it was for the right cause.”
That cause is the City of London Friends of Cancer Research. Founded in 1989, the charity was launched to help raise money in a more organised format, whilst retaining the support of Cancer Research UK.
To date, the charity has raised just over £900,000 and is “working towards the magic £1m mark,” says Scott.
Entry is £6 for adults and £1 for under-16’s with tickets available by ringing 07970303901 or by purchasing from the Coppermill Public House on the day of the game.
