Alec Lyons is the new captain of the seniors’ section at Woodford Golf Club replacing outgoing captain John Smith-Pryor.

Lyons, who plays off 20, took over the role at the club’s annual AGM last week.

Before the AGM a three-club nine-hole tournament was organised, with competitors only allowed to play with three clubs instead of the usual 14, making improvisation central to success.

David Dupree won the competition, posting a score of 17, a feat which won him a bottle of wine.

Later that day Dupree’s wife, Irene, would go on to be installed as captain of the ladies section during their AGM.

Mrs Dupree, who has a handicap of 36, began her reign as captain with a 128 yard drive, a feat which saw former club president John Peters win a bottle of champagne for correctly predicting the distance of her drive.
