Alex Pentecost, a Year Nine pupil at Bancroft’s School, has been named the Liontrust Under-13s ‘Player of the Year’.
Pentecost was presented with his award, judged by all 18 London rugby league clubs, at Arsenal Football Club’s Emirates Stadium by two current rugby league professionals, Tommy Lee and Olsi Krasniq, both of whom play for the London Broncos.
Currently playing for the London Skolars Rugby League club, Pentecost also plays for Saracens Amateurs Under-14s side, where he is captain.
He was selected for the Under-13 Rugby League Regional Player Development Squad and is vice captain for the North Origin Under-13 selection. On top of playing, Pentecost intends to study for his rugby union refereeing qualification (entry levels one and two).
He has also coached tag rugby at the London Youth Games and is keen to go on a tag rugby coaching course during the season.
His father Fred spoke of his pride in his son: “As a family we are very proud of Alex’s determination, work ethic and focus which have reaped benefits within both codes of rugby.”
Rob Faiers, a rugby coach at Bancroft’s School said: “Alex has a passion for the sport and is very focused. He is also well respected amongst his peer group.”
