A fine team performance helped Woodford Green AC with Essex Ladies’ women’s side finish second at the London Cross Country Championship.
Despite a somewhat depleted team, Georgie-Lou Sale, Sidnie Sales, Danni Nimmock and Lauren MacGregor helped Woodford to second place overall after strong individual performances.
In a field of 139 competitors, the four Woodford athletes got off to strong starts.
Georgie-Lou Sales improved as the race developed and came home in sixth overall and first in the Under-20 field. The 19-year-old’s final time was just 22 seconds behind the bronze-placed athlete.
Sidnie Sales finished just behind her sister in seventh position and third in the Under-20 category.
Third home for Woodford was Nimmock; she crossed the line in 18th in her first performance for the side.
MacGregor, also Under-20, ran a controlled race and took 27th to bring the Woodford side home.
The final team result wasn’t enough to beat first-placed Serpentine but they did enough to claim second.
