Woodford Green were successfully represented at the McCain UK Cross Challenge in Liverpool, which doubled as the European trials.
The club had top-ten finishes from Canaan Solomon and Bella Hoy and a respectable 29th place from Matt Gunby in the men’s senior race.
Solomon, who was racing in the Under-15 boys category, finished in an impressive seventh position out of 126. He was only 16 seconds behind eventual winner Jos Kerr.
Hoy crossed the line in a very respectable eighth place in the girls Under-13 race. She finished 34 seconds behind winner Khahisa Mhlanga.
In the senior race, Woodford had both Gunby and Alex Cornwell running.
Cornwell, who also ran in the Under-23 category, started well but drifted off and finished in 63rd place. He also managed a 20th place finish.
Gunby had a very good race and finished in 29th position in a field that had 480 runners. He came in 1min 25 behind the winner.
In the Under-20 race, Ed Shepherd, who has an outside chance of making the Great Britain U20 team, was running for Woodford.
Despite having a cold for most of the week leading up to the event, Shephard managed a 37th-place finish, a minute behind the winner.
James Stockings also ran in this race and finished 74th out of 110 finishers.
In the Under-20 women’s category, Lauren MacGregor finished 54th out of a field of 65.
Perry Rowan also had a respectable finish as he came in 46 out of 111 in the Under-17 boys’ category.
In the Under-17 girls section, Jessica Burgess finished 27th, 16 seconds ahead of fellow Woodford athlete Amelia Barrett, who came in 34th.
Alicia McArdell came in 55th position and Jodi Ratcliff 59th from a field of 106 in the Under-15 girls’ category.
In the Under-13 boys, Kyle Lundie finished in an impressive 45th out of 127.
n Patrick Brown emerged victorious in the Wanstead flats 5km.
The East London Runner finished 11 seconds ahead of Gareth Wainwright, who crossed the line in second place.
Euan Brown came in third, with Gavin Stebbing and Tim Le Rasle finishing in seventh and eighth place respectively.
Celia Payaneeandee also impressed as she finished in 20th position and was the first lady to cross the line.
Another impressive performance came at Victoria Park in the Red Run 10km as William Pearce finished with a personal best of 39.40.
Amadeus Furlong would have been happy as he finished in third place at the Valentines Park 5km.
Alex Haward also had an impressive performance at this race as he finished in fifth position.
At the Woodley 5km meet, Allan Todd finished in an impressive seventh place, while Derek Wright took part in the sixth race of the West Ham Park 5km Winter Series.
Wright finished in sixth place and will be hoping to improve on this next time out.
