Second XI Premier Division
Wanstead & Snaresbrook Seconds enjoyed the better of a thrilling draw with Brentwood.
Batting first, Wanstead posted 246 with Mahesh Velani (67) and Dave Richardson (51) top-scoring.
Richardson then transferred his talents to the field, taking five wickets for 59 to put Wanstead in sight of victory.
All results seemed possible but Brentwood finished just ten runs behind while Wanstead were left two wickets short and the spoils were shared.
The Seconds travel to South Woodford Seconds on Saturday.
South Woodford Seconds edged past Hornchurch Seconds by only one wicket.
Hornchurch batted first but Bradley Copper was in fine form with the ball, taking five wickets in his 14.4 overs for 47 runs and the visitors were kept to 157 all-out.
In reply Woodford started strongly as Harry Neicho (32), Copper (18) and Richard Browne (58) all made good scores.
Quick wickets set up a nervy finish but Mohammed Aqeel Rafiq and Indika Wickramaratne were left unbeaten as Woodford crept over the line.
South Woodford Seconds play Wanstead &Snaresbrook Seconds on Saturday.
Chingford Seconds were home early after a comfortable win over Colchester and East Essex Seconds.
Colchester won the toss and elected to bat but great bowling from Chingford and in particular Matthew McKay (three for seven) and Richard MacGregor (two for two) meant the hosts were all out for a miserable 52.
Chingford sailed past that total for no loss and in just 13.5 overs.
Openers Zishan Rehman (32) and McKay (16) scored the runs required.
Chingford Seconds host Shenfield Seconds on Saturday.
Woodford Wells Seconds suffered a 95-run defeat to Ilford Seconds.
Ilford batted first and dominated with Shaharyar Aslam notching an unbeaten 132.
Having been set a target of 280, Woodford were always up against it and despite good contributions from James Langrish-Smith (41), Joe Johnson (30) and Nicholas Sims (64), Ilford claimed the wickets required for victory.
Woodford Wells Seconds are away to Brentwood Seconds on Saturday.
Second XI Division One
Buckhurst Hill Seconds recorded a convincing six-wicket win over Harold Wood Seconds.
Wood batted first but were all out for 158 thanks to five wickets from Rob Petchey, three from Rohan Bhome and one each for Daniel Platt and Sam Sullivan.
In reply Hermes Solomonides led the way with an unbeaten 69 while Ricky Reynolds (36) and Ajit Ramasagaram (20) made valuable scores to chase down the total.
Buckhurst Hill Seconds are away to Hadleigh & Thundersley on Saturday.
Fives & Heronians Seconds lost to Wickford Seconds by eight runs.
Fives batted first and set a target of 166 with Rob Allum top-scoring on 68.
Wickford however were undeterred and cruised home in 32.4 overs.
Fives Seconds play Loughton Seconds on Saturday.
Loughton Seconds suffered a 43-run defeat to Orsett Seconds.
Orsett batted first but struggled to handle the bowling of Abdul Nasir who took five wickets for 36 runs.
Wajahat Bukhari claimed another three as Orsett were bowled out for 180.
Loughton’s batting however came up short as Adam Vinson (32), Ashfaq Parvez (38) and Asim Aslam (29) were unable to capitalise on good starts and the visitors were dismissed for 137.
Loughton Seconds are away on Saturday to Fives & Heronians.
Second XI Division Two
West Essex Seconds lost to Stanford Le Hope Seconds by one wicket.
Stanford put West Essex into bat but struggled to find a breakthrough as openers Miftha Islam (38) and Arfan Mohammed (45) both settled in.
Quick wickets through the middle order however cost West Essex who finished on 198 all out.
In contrast Stanford started poorly at the crease, falling to 54 for three, but recovered to edge past the target with just one wicket remaining.
Khalid Mehmood (three for 41) and Murad Ali (three for 15) were West Essex’s most effective bowlers.
West Essex Seconds face Southend -on-sea on Saturday.
Second XI Division Three
Epping Seconds lost to Harlow Town Seconds by seven wickets.
Epping batted first and scored 206 thanks to 66 runs from Salahuddin Quadir and a useful 37 from Salim Mithani.
Harlow Town got off to the perfect start in reply however with an opening partnership of 135.
Epping’s Ian Simpson managed to break the stand and Quaddie took two more wickets but Harlow saw it through to claim victory.
Epping Seconds host Benfleet Seconds on Saturday.
Old Parkonians Seconds played out an exciting draw with Old Brentwoods Seconds.
Parks set a target of 242, with Rajeev Kumar hitting 59 and Alan Bouquet getting caught LBW on 32.
Brentwoods batted sensibly and with a few overs left any result looked possible as the batting side closed in on the total and Parks got stuck into the tail enders.
But neither side could clinch victory as Brentwoods ended on 234 for the loss of seven wickets.
Parks’ Victor Yatheesh was in fine form with the ball, taking four wickets for 69 runs.
Parkonians Seconds are at home to Harlow Town on Saturday.
Woodford Green Seconds slumped to a seven-wicket defeat against Billericay Seconds.
Green were put into bat after on a green looking wicket in overcast conditions.
A poor start left them struggling on 17 for two. Mark Smith opened with 21 and Robert Newman top scored with 40 as they were teetering on 101 for six. Yasin Mohhamed hit 17 as Green posted a total of 132 all out.
There was some hope when Billericay lost a couple of wickets and were on 37 for two. But quick wickets did not follow and Billericay had few problems reaching the target in just 25.2 overs.
