East London Boxing Academy closed their first season with a win after Ash Khan provided his best performance to date, defeating Fairban ABC boxer Jan Zaman on Friday.
Despite Zaman being the home favourite and four years older than Khan, the academy boxer wasn’t fazed and produced a stellar performance.
Khan produced some good footwork to get himself out of trouble whilst using his hand speed to counter Zaman, who had no answer to the 17-year-old’s effective style of boxing.
Competition coach Umer Ali Iqbal felt Khan produced a mature performance to defeat Zaman in his first bout as a senior boxer.
“This was a huge test for Ash, he stepped into the senior ranks and turned from a boy into a man,” he said.
“He boxed brilliantly, doing what he does best and I believed in him before the fight and he proved me right.”
East London Boxing Academy are now planning to host their first home boxing event within Waltham Forest in October.
And Khan’s head coach Nasser Suman believes the future is looking bright for the academy.
“Ash showed what he was capable of doing and it’s capped a great first season for the academy where we have also achieved a national title in Roman Haidari,” he said.
“There are a number of up and coming stars who will shake up the North East boxing scene next season.”
