Tottenham have reportedly begun their efforts to sign Christian Benteke with a starting bid of cash plus Jermain Defoe.
Benteke is high on head coach Andre Villas-Boas' wanted list this summer and Spurs have offered a fee believed to be around £12m for the Belgian as well as Defoe, who is considered dispensable.
Defoe had a disappointing end to the season for Spurs and Villas-Boas is not convinced he is a long-term solution to his striking problems.
Tottenham are also keen on Porto's Jackson Martinez, Barcelona's David Villa and Internacional's Leandro Damiao.
