Waltham Cricket Club produced the perfect finale to their 2013 season after beating a Spanish select XI by seven wickets to win the sixth Kiss Mix Lady Taverners Charity t20 Tournament.

The Essex side started the final as favourites having beaten ECB national club champions West Indian Cavaliers in the last four and always looked in control against their Spanish opposition at La Manga Club.

After restricting the Spanish XI team to a total of 153 for five from their 20 overs, Waltham set about their target with gusto and, helped by an innings of 60 from Tanweer Sikandar and 48 from Khawar Ali, completed a convincing victory with three overs to spare for the loss of only three wickets.

It was a memorable trip for Waltham and it was rounded off when they played a charity match against a Lord’s Taverners Legends XI led by 1986 England Ashes-winning captain Mike Gatting.

Facing a celebrity side that also included ex-Kent and England captain Chris Cowdrey, former England internationals Neil Smith and Graham Napier and Essex head coach Paul Grayson, Waltham managed 82 from their ten overs before the Taverners passed the total with ten balls to spare.
