An impressive team performance helped Eastern Avenue clinch a 4-3 victory against West Ham United in the Under-18s Essex County Girls Football League.

Both sides struck the woodwork in the opening minutes and with the defences pressing well it looked as if goals would be hard to come by.

However, the deadlock was broken by the Herons on the half hour as Ashleigh Lewis-Shodeinde was played through and she steered the ball into the net.

The visitors doubled their lead three minutes after the restart as Katie Peers fired a half volley into the roof of the net from the edge of the penalty area.

West Ham continued to play their passing game. They moved ball neatly and tested Avenue down both flanks.

But they were unable to break through and Peers grabbed her second of the game as she smashed an unstoppable shot into the net.

West Ham responded with a goal of their own but Eastern Avenue quickly added a fourth through Lewis-Shodeinde.

The Hammers produced a late fight back and managed to reduce the deficit to just one goal, however, they were unable to complete the unlikely comeback and Avenue claimed the three points.
