Essex League Dukes Twenty20
Quarter-Final
Wanstead and Snaresbrook’s run in the Twenty20 competition came to an end on Sunday as they lost out by four wickets at home to Hornchurch.
The hosts won the toss and elected to bat first but immediately lost Arfan Akram for a duck. Akram’s opening partner, Hassan Chowdhury, showed greater staying power at the crease and racked up 51 runs from 44 balls.
But Chowdhury’s lead could not be followed and Wanstead were ultimately restricted to 147 for seven from their 20 overs. Having been at 92 for five at one stage though, it was a reasonable enough score.
Three early wickets in reply saw Hornchurch on 36 for three but after a stuttering start the side composed themselves and made it to 149 for six with an over to spare.
Essex League Dukes League Cup
Quarter-Final
Fives and Heronians are into the last four of the League Cup after a nervy five-run win at Harlow Town.
Hugo Blogg (0) and Terry Ballard (10) were removed early and Fives quickly found themselves under the cosh on 13 for two.
Big knocks in the middle order from Jake Poulter (44) and Ben Britton (53) proved decisive though, as Fives put up a good total of 205 all out after 41.1 overs.
Sarfaraz Ahmed (three for 36) and Gary Norris (two for 12) then dismantled the Harlow line-up to restrict the hosts to 200 for nine and seal Fives’ passage into the semis.
