TOTTENHAM had an approach for Birmingham City wonderkid Mauro Zarate turned down, it has been revealed.p>
Media reports this morning suggested that Spurs' move for the Argentinian was rebuffed shortly before he completed his loan move to the St Andrews from Qatar club Al-Sadd.
Zarate has been one of the finds of the season, as his goals have helped guide the Blues away from the relegation zone, and the 21-year-old striker insists he is glad he opted for Premier League strife, rather than head for the bright lights of London with Tottenham.
"Birmingham were the first club to come in for me and the ones that pushed the hardest to get me out of there (Al-Sadd)," said Zarate.
"There were other clubs interested just before I signed here. From England, there were Tottenham and Newcastle, but I am very happy with my choice."
There is little doubt that Zarate will top the wanted lists of a number of clubs this summer, although it remains to be seen if Spurs will follow up on their initial interest.
