ARSENE WENGER has thrown down the gauntlet to Manchester United as the Arsenal boss insists that his side are still gunnning for the league title.

Many believe the Champions' League represents the Gunners' best hope of silverware this season, but despite trailing United by six points, Wenger has refused to throw in the towel for the league.

"We still believe we can win the championship and that's not impossible," he said.

"You think I've been fighting since the first day of the season in the championship to finish second? I want to finish first," Wenger affirmed.

The Frenchman was also quick to point out that Alex Ferguson's side have a less than favourable run-in, and if Arsenal can overcome the champions at Old Trafford, Wenger knows that will blow the race for the premier league crown wide open.

"It looks to me that Manchester United have six games to go and four of them are away from home," said Wenger. "One time against us, and at Chelsea as well. So that depends, also, how committed teams are to play in every game.

"Some teams don't have a lot to go for - you could see that in Aston Villa, for example. Manchester United have the advantage, but they have a difficult schedule as well. It depends now on the last six games."
