England football fans have taken to social media to share their support for the national team after losing the Euro 2024 final to Spain.
After beating the Netherlands 2-1 in the semi-final, hopes were high that England would bring back the Euros trophy following the women's team win in 2022.
In a tense final in Berlin, Spain scored twice with Nico Williams and Mikel Oyarzabal scoring the winning goals while England's Cole Palmer was able to score one goal for the team.
Following their loss, England boss Gareth Southgate shared that it was "incredibly tough", adding that the team couldn't have " given anymore in terms of their effort, their desire, their character."
England team captain Harry Kane described the loss as "tough as it gets", sharing: "Losing in a final is as tough as it gets. We did really well to get back into the game and get it back to 1-1, and then we couldn’t quite use that momentum to push on.
“We couldn’t quite keep the ball and we got punished for it towards the end of the game, so it’s as painful as it could be in a football match.”
Fans support England despite Euros defeat
Despite England's loss to Spain at the Euros fans in Berlin and back home were quick to support the players.
As one fan took to X, formerly Twitter, to share: "This will hurt for England, but that they got this far again needs to be respected. Chin up lads."
Another learnt their support to Southgate: "A few days ago, everyone was on Southgate's side again. Now I'm seeing negative comments about him.
"He's arguably the best England manager ever. Spain were better than England. Not due to Southgate. We were in the final in the first place *because* of him."
One last fan said: "I feel gutted for these lads. They seem really genuine and play with spirit. They represent everything good about England in 2024."
