BUCKHURST HILL FC gave away a two goal lead but were happy to escape with a point on Saturday, on a day when many games were affected by winter weather.

Phil Hernon’s side, currently second in Essex Olympian Football League division one, welcomed strugglers Old Chelmsfordians to Roding Lane.

But the team in 11th place put Buckhurst Hill to task and restricted them to just a few chances during the first half.

The going got tougher for Hill with the exit of lynch-pin Danny Morgan mid way through the period with an injury.

But luck was on the host’s side when Chelmsfordians put the ball into their own net on 25 minutes.

It was the only goal before the break, with the visitors unable to breach Hill’s back line.

But Chelmsfordians turned up the heat in the second half and could count themselves unlucky to concede a second on 60 minutes.

Dave Burnage produced a moment of class with a lob over the keeper.

After this, Hill were on the ropes until the final whistle as Chelmsfordians scored two goals and could have snatched victory.

But the home side clung on for the draw.

Afterwards, coach Hernon said: “It was a point gained rather than two points dropped for us. We ground out a result in the end.”

His players will hope to play better when third place Bishop Stortford Swifts come to Roding Lane for a top of the table clash on Saturday.

It will be the first time the pair have met of this season.

Elsewhere, Epping FC recorded a 2-1 win against Canning Town in round three of the Senior Division League Cup game.

Now Runwell Hospital await them in round four.

Debden Sports FC’s clash on Saturday with Hitchin was postponed. It should mean the team is raring for the trip to Sarratt this weekend.

Another game to fall victim to weather conditions was Harlow’s Ryman Premier League match away against Dartford. It would have been new boss Glen Alzapiedi’s first away clash.

His side now turns its attention to the home encounter against Maidstone.

Harlow go into the match with just one win in ten matches and standing 17th in the table. Maidstone have been strong and sit fifth, but their form has dipped of late with a run of three defeats in the last five games.

Harlow will be buoyed by the result when the pair last met, in August. Then Harlow ran out 2-1 winners.
