DAGENHAM & Redbridge number two Terry Harris insists the team have not given up hope of a play-off place after two impressive away performances lifted the gloom that threatened to engulf Victoria Road.

Jamie Guy’s first goal for the club carried the Daggers to a one-goal win over Port Vale last week, while Sam Saunders’ last-gasp strike saw them earn a point against Chesterfield on Saturday.

John Still’s side have gone an astonishing ten games without defeat on the road, but it is their form in front of their own fans that has raised doubts over their promotion credentials.

They have won just once in their last six home games, but they will need to buck that unfavourable trend sooner rather than later if they are to challenge for the play-off places.

Harris is confident they can do just that. “We’ve certainly not given up hope of getting into the play-off places,” he stated boldly.

“We said before the Port Vale game that we have a ten-game season in front of us. Well, we’ve taken four points from the first two games and now we’re down to an eight-game campaign.

“It may be that teams come at us a little bit more when they’re at home, allowing us to catch them on the break. But the fans aren’t putting any pressure on us at home, they’ve been great. We just need to make sure that we get on a good run now and we’ll be right up there.”

At the centre of the Daggers’ mini recent revival has been on-loan striker Jamie Guy. His tireless performances have helped take the pressure off Ben Strevens, according to Harris, while the forward also opened his account for the club against Vale last week.

“Jamie has been absolutely excellent. He’s run his socks off and that has taken the emphasis off of Ben,” insisted Harris.

League Two leaders Brentford are next up for the Daggers at Victoria Road on Monday, and Harris knows that there would be no better time to turn around the team’s fortunes at home.

“It’s going to be a great game to be involved in, in front of the Sky TV cameras. But it’s going to be very tough, as they’re doing excellently.”
