GERAINT Williams has dropped the strongest hint yet that he might be Orient boss next season.
After Saturday’s home defeat to Northampton Town, Williams broke his silence on discussing off-the-field matters when he was asked whether he wanted to be at Brisbane Road after the final whistle blows on this campaign.
“Yes of course,” he said. “It’s a fantastic club and everyone’s working very hard, and have done since I got here. There’s certainly no reason why not. We’ll sit down at the right time and talk about the future, not only for myself, but for everyone at the club.”
Williams has not previously expressed a personal opinion on the matter, rebuffing any questions.
His comments suggest he is edging towards staying. If so, it is up to the club to make his mind up with a deal to replace the short-term one which brought him to Brisbane Road in early February.
It ends with the season.
Landing Williams’ signature could be the biggest signing Orient make this summer.
His proclamation came after he watched the team succumb to the heaviest defeat of his reign, a 3-1 defeat at home against the relegation-threatened Cobblers.
Now he wants the players to be fired up for one of the biggest clashes of the season, against Millwall on Saturday.
“We got what we deserved out of that game (Northampton).
“I don’t think there should be any problem motivating any player for any game. It won't be a problem, with the added spice of the game being at Millwall. It’s a big game for us and we want to continue our excellent away form.”
“There’s no excuses. It’s been a hard season and there’s a lot of tired bodies. If everyone’s given their all and has nothing left to give, we’ll put new bodies in."
This week, the club would not reveal the status or progress of contract talks with Geraint Williams.
