BOXER Michael Lomax's bid to bring the British welterweight title back to Chingford was dashed when he was defeated by Kell Brook.

The pair went head-to-head on the undercard of Amir Khan's unanimous points win over Andreas Kotelnick in Manchester.

Brook won the bout in the third round after Lomax was sent sprawling to the canvas on three occasions.

Lomax was unfavoured going into the fight, because his Sheffield opponent boasted an unbeaten 19-match record.

The Chingford southpaw was unable to prove his critics wrong and now joins Barrie Jones, Kevin McIntyre and Stuart Elwell as fighters Brook has beaten.

Lomax came to prominence in October last year when he won the prestigious welterweight Prizefighter series, which was shown on Sky Sports. Leyton Orient chairman Barry Hearn was the brains behind the competition.

The former Waltham Forest and West Ham amateur defeated Brixton boxer Ted Bami to win the £25,000 prize fund.

Heading into the fight against Brook, Lomax had one defeat and 15 victories.
