CHIGWELL’s Oliver Fisher had a debut to forget at the British Open.
The highly rated 20-year-old missed the cut on day two, and bowed out with a score of 79 and 78.
Afterwards he admitted he found it tough.
"I struggled, so there's not much to take from it. I've got to do a bit of work on my game. You've still got to hit it straight and hit the greens and I didn't do that," he said.
But Fisher has the chance to put the disappointment behind him.
This week, he has been in Sweden competing in the SAS Masters.
Next week, he will be in the Czech Republic at another tournament.
At Turnberry in Scotland, his family watched from behind the ropes out on the course.
Mum Kaye told the Guardian: “It was a tough course and he is only 20. It was a great experience for all of us.“
Closer to home, Woodford Golf Club held its own Club Championship at the weekend.
On Saturday, the Mead Challenge Cup and Scratch Prize were up for grabs.
Competition secretary Sean Marah claimed both of those prizes, as he hit a gross 74 to win the Championship.
Paul Swindells was three shots behind Marah on the Saturday with a gross 74. He repeated that on the Sunday, to match the new champion’s second-round score.
