DAGENHAM & Redbridge's winning run came to an end with a 3-1 JP Trophy defeat to MK Dons on Tuesday night.
The Daggers could not bring their sizzling League Two form to the competition.
At Stadium: MK, John Still’s men were well beaten by the current holders, who are now led by Paul Ince.
Josh Scott scored the Daggers' consolation goal deep in injury time.
The Dons had netted three times in the space of 12 minutes, after a goalless first half.
Dean Lewington struck on 55 minutes.
Then Jermaine Easter fired in a brace. He doubled the hosts' advantage three minutes later, and settled the affair on 67 minutes.
In-form Paul Benson missed chances for Daggers in the first half.
But the popular striker has the chance to find the net this weekend, when the table-topping Daggers travel to Cheltenham Town in League Two.
The Robins lie in ninth place, four points behind Dagenham & Redbridge, who saw off Lincoln City 3-0 on Saturday to go top.
Boss Still will want to keep his team’s fine start to the league campaign going.
The Daggers have four wins from five games. Not resting on his laurels, Still moved to further bolster his squad this week.
He recruited teenager Tom Kilbey from Premier League Portsmouth and the youngster went straight into the squad for the MK Dons game.
Kilbey arrives on a month-long loan.
Elsewhere at Victoria Road, injury-ravaged Anwar Uddin continues his lengthy rehabilitation with a loan move to Grays Athletic.
The defensive midfielder will be away for one month initally, as he gets back to fitness.
