WALTHAM Forest and Leyton FC will be forgetting about the league this weekend when they do battle in the FA Trophy.

Forest host East Thurrock United in the FA Trophy preliminary round, who are second in Ryman Division One North.

The Stags, who are ninth, have also started well, and will head into the fixture in good heart after beating VCD Athletic 2-1 over the weekend.

Phil Miles, Forest’s manager, said: “We had a very positive result on Saturday and the lads are in a buoyant mood.

“East Thurrock are a good side and they like to play football. I had them watched when they played Welling United.”

He believes it’s a game Waltham Forest can win.

Miles said: “We have not been taking our chances as well as I would like. We need two or three chances, whereas other sides score after just one.

“But if there aren’t any errors then I don’t see why we can’t go through.”

He added: “I’ve been here three weeks now. It’s different from starting the season as boss because you don’t have pre-season to see where the players fit in.

“I’ve had to throw players into live matches when maybe I’d liked to have looked at them more. With a squad of 20 or 30 there may well be a nugget in there that I’ve not managed to see.”

Leyton FC will be taking a trip to Kent to play Ramsgate of the Ryman Division One South.

The Rams were beaten 3-1 by Dulwich Hamlet at the weekend, which leaves them ninth, while Leyton will want to make amends for Saturday’s 4-0 defeat to Thamesmead Town.

The Lillywhites are currently 12th in the Ryman Division One North table.

Meanwhile, Waltham Abbey face Cray Wanderers in the Ryman Premier this weekend.

The Abbotts, who are in the division for the first time, lie second bottom, while their opponents are also struggling and sit just two places above them.

The fixture offers either side the opportunity of a much needed win to lift them up the table.
