WALTHAM ABBEY were knocked out of the FA Trophy by Ryman Premier high-fliers Boreham Wood.
The Abbotts started well, with Billy Holland going close from Tom Bailey's centre early on. A couple of minutes later Dave Ayres headed inches over from a sweetly struck Denny Webb corner before Holland's own headed effort was comfortably saved by Tony Tucker.
However, the team's failure to convert their early chances proved costly, as Wood shifted gears.
Jamie Richards twice came close, but he was more successful with his third attempt, finishing after a short corner had caught the hosts unaware.
Abbey came back strongly, with Holland and Aaron Gayle both missing decent chances, but as they surged forward in search of an equaliser, they were caught on the break, with Leon Hunter prodding home for the decisive second.
