WALTHAM ABBEY'S plight took another turn for the worse when they endured a 5-0 battering at the hands of Hornchurch at Capershotts on Saturday.
The Abbotts are struggling to keep their heads above water in the Ryman Premier Division, as they sit third from bottom, following a run of five losses in six games.
The five goals the team conceded at the weekend to mid-table Hornchurch made it nine in just two league games, after their 4-1 reverse against Carshalton Athletic.
Elsewhere, Leyton produced an excellent display to beat title-chasing Concord Rangers 2-1 on Saturday.
The result moves the Lilywhites up to 12th in Ryman Division One North.
Meanwhile, Waltham Forest will be disappointed not to have moved further into contention for a play-off place after they were held to a 1-1 draw by second-bottom Ware.
Striker Danny Gabriel got the goal for the Stags, but they couldn't find that all-important second.
