Waltham Abbey have had a mixed week in what has been a tough first season in the Ryman League Premier Division.
They are into round four of the Essex Senior Cup after James Elmes scored an extra-time winner to see off Stanway Rovers 3-2, last week.
Now Abbey are just four games away from the final.
But there was Ryman League Cup disappointment on Tuesday, when the Abbotts lost 3-1 to Division One North side Enfield Town.
In between these two cup clashes was a battling 0-0 draw at Sutton United in the league on Saturday.
Next up is a trip to play Canvey Island this weekend. The Islanders have two wins in their last five matches, one more than Abbey.
In Division One North, Leyton boss Craig Edwards called the weekend’s 3-0 defeat to struggling Romford a ‘blow’.
Six players left the club this week over off-the-field issues, so he will have another headache when coming to pick his team for the trip to mid-table Northwood on Saturday.
Add to that Monday night’s exit from the London Cup after Erith Town beat them 2-1 in extra time, and Edwards has plenty to think about.
The Leyton boss was optimistic, however.
“The boys put all the heart into it on Monday.
“We will give Wood a very good game,” he said.
Elsewhere in the division, Waltham Forest boss Phil Miles fears Gbenga Sonuga could miss the rest of the season after he broke his leg during the Essex Senior Cup tie against AFC Hornchurch.
The game was abandoned and will be replayed on Wednesday.
Forest host high-flying East Thurrock United this Saturday, and Miles is confident. “We seem to step up a level when we play the big sides,” he said.
Forest picked up a point in a 0-0 draw with Ilford at the weekend, before goals from Pedro Knight and Sam Adesola saw them see off Ware 2-1 in the Ryman League Cup on Tuesday evening.
