GERAINT Willams was impressed with the home fans last Saturday.

The supporters saw the O’s beat Tranmere Rovers 2-1 in a display which was so different from the one which saw them exit the FA Cup last Tuesday, to the same opposition.

A big portion of them booed that day, but last weekend they were behind the team.

Williams said: “The crowd were fantastic. On Tuesday they were disappointed, as were the players and the staff, and they're entitled to show that.

“All I said was that does not help the players one bit. I don’t mind what they say about me, that’s fine, but the players on the pitch are out there trying 100 per cent, as they showed again.”

Williams said the support of fans makes a difference on the pitch.

“The chants keeps the players going, and when you’re defending a 2-1 lead that can be the difference between holding on, and conceding.

“So credit where its due, the fans were fantastic, as 99 per cent of them are all the time.”
